Engineers Day

September 15 is celebrated every year in India as Engineer’s Day to commemorate the birthday of the legendary engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya (1861-1962).

Internationally recognised for his genius in harnessing water resources, he was responsible for successful design and construction of several river dams, bridges and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes all over India.
He served as the dewan of Mysore State and was considered to be the architect of the all-round development of Karnataka.
Among his most successful projects are the design and construction of the K.R. Sagar dam and its adjoining Brindavan Gardens, turn-around of the Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, setting up of the Mysore Sandalwood Oil Factory and the founding of the Bank of Mysore.

"The Fighter "
I was watching a news channel and suddenly a breaking a news flashed that kanimozhi the daughter of AIDMK chief Karuna Nidhi’s Bail plea was not accepted and plea is to be heard on May 30….. One thing came in my mind Wat the Fu** is this happening what if her bail plea is accepted it took more than an year to investigate her involvement in the 2G scams and she duped India of 204 crores …..now when she is convicted she is asking for a bail plea….. God forbid if this bail plea is accepted she will roam free again stand for elections and will travel in so called LAAL Batti Gaadi with all the hulla bullah around her security guards and all….. I wish i cud slap or award 1 Lacs to the person who slaps these bastar** or hurl a shoe on their face so hard that… ” Us jootay ka nishan saari jindagi uske chehre pe pada rahey “
The per Capita spending on food for villages is 440 rs and for cities it is 570 rs still people are dying out of hunger and malnourishment.
Like terrorist,maoist i want to start an agressive group led by me that will fight against all corrupts why not acquire all the wealth that belongs to Kanimozhi or A K Raja or Ramalinga Raju. The money that they duped India for could have fed all the Indians for almost 2 and a half months but the sad thing is they are kept in special cells having T.V fan a seperate toilet newspapers and novels and free food for which we tax-payers are paying….. and still she complained about mosquitoes and the toilet what kind of guts they have yaar i just wonder if she has come to resort for a break that she is prisoned….. why so many facilities why partiality for her make her to go in the same common cell in which a common man/woman the tax payer is made to stay in…..

I am ashamed at the moment and i remember the scene from a movie in which Amitabh Bachhans hand Quotes “Mera Baap Chor hai “. I fear when i go abroad and when people ask me where do I hail from Should I answer the land of Mahatma Gandhi or will they say Don’t lie you hail from the land of corruptionists……
I am really sad and i really don’t know where India is headed due to dirty politics irresponsible youths lack of infrastructure and basic amenitities……. i also doubt the figure the Indian Govt.boasts about i.e. a growth rate of 8% which it compares with his stupid neighbours like Pakistan and Nepal……
I don’t say the system is always at fault it is me and you also have added to it someway or the other for instance consider the various events…..
I here stands for almost evryone who has done something that has helped flourish corruption ….
I am the common indian man.
I want my passport quickly. i want no problem in verification process. i am happy to pay bribe to policeman. then i wonder why so much corruption.
I want my driving licence quickly. it doesnt matter wether i know driving or not but i want my licence. i pay bribe at RTO office and then i wonder why so much corruption.
I am always in hurry to meet my girlfriend. i jump traffic lights and dont follow traffic rules. the traffic cop asks for my DL and registration papers? lol who carries these heavy things now a days. the traffic cop ask me if he can cut 500 Rs challan. i quietly pay him 100 Rs. i quickly move out and curse traffic cop “these guys are bas***, they wont even spare their sons and moms”. and then i wonder why so much corruption.
I am the common indian man. i dont want to work hard and study. my dad is always there to take care of me. he happily pays Rs ten lakh for a good engineering/medical seat. and then i wonder why so much corruption.
i always want extra gays cylinder for emergencies. i dont wanna wait for my turn. i pay bribe to the agency and get it done. and then i wonder why so much corruption.
i am the common indian man. i have a property dispute. i willingly pay bribe to get case “heard” on fast track basis. i also pay bribe to get a favourable judgement. and then i wonder why so much corruption.
i dont pay my due taxes in time. hell sometimes i dont even pay taxes at all. so wen the tax inspectors come i pay them “little money”. and then i wonder why so much corruption.
i am the common indian man. i bid for contracts and deals. i am willing to pay “cuts” to netas and babus. and i wonder why so much corruption……

Dear Soniaji,

I’ve never been much of a fan of open letters. After all, why make public something meant for one person. However, I don’t have your email ID; you don’t seem to be on Facebook (and certainly not on Twitter). Regular mail will never get past your sycophants and reach you. Hence, this seems to be the best option. Also, i don’t speak only for myself. It’s something a lot of young Indians currently feel. However, we don’t know the right channel to express this and get it addressed. The issue is simple: India must get rid of corruption. Whatever the solution, you will have a pivotal role in implementing it.

I don’t think you would have a personal interest in being corrupt. Money would hold little significance for you at this stage of life. Neither do you come across as someone who aspires to a lavish lifestyle. Yes, the compulsions of running a political party require vast amounts of funds. This brings in cronies and moral compromises, which have become part of any Indian politician’s life. In recent times, however, there have been too many of these compromises. Amounts have reached levels that cannot be computed on a digital calculator. Scam after scam (and these are only the unearthed ones) show how we have created a monster of a system that rewards the evil and threatens the dream of India becoming a “first world” country. Recently, your son spoke about how corruption prevents the benefits of globalization from reaching the common man. This is absolutely true. In fact, it not only cuts existing benefits, it cuts out future opportunities for the young. Corruption is worse than terrorism. Terrorists blow up existing infrastructure such as roads, airports and power plants. Corruption prevents such infrastructure from being made in the first place. Terrorists take innocent lives. Corrupt politicians prevent hospitals from being built, which means innocent lives that could be saved are not.

You say corruption is a disease. But that sounds a little defeatist. A disease is something inflicted upon us by nature. Corruption isn’t caused by little bugs falling from the sky. Corruption comes from unchecked power. Take the example of electric power, a wonderful invention that brings light and comfort to our homes. But, before this power reaches us, it is kept under control at various sub-stations to limit voltage and current. If electric power is unchecked, it can burn our homes. Political power is unrestrained in India. Like little kings, our MPs roam around with their sycophants, blocking traffic, openly defying quotas and doing anything and everything possible to exploit their power. If you want to fix this ‘disease’ —and you can do it – you need to pass a ‘political accountability Bill’ in Parliament. Also, an independent council against corruption needs to be set up. It should not be under the control of politicians and should have the power to prosecute politicians (almost all “first world” countries have this). Without these changes, no matter how many wonderful speeches are made, the disease will remain uncured.

Mechanisms to punish errant politicians are one aspect. It’s equally important to understand why so many politicians err in the first place, and the reforms required to prevent that. Some of your party’s ideas seem well intentioned – particularly the massive push to bring young people into politics. Your son has travelled across the country to spread this message. But, i want to ask -—what happens when a young man joins Youth Congress (or another party’s youth wing). To do well, he will need to spend most of his energies serving the party. Parties do not have a formal stipend or salary system, so how is the young man expected to survive except through petty corruption? This is how a fine young man is forced to take small steps towards becoming corrupt. In such a scenario, would you advise educated, intelligent young people to join politics? Instead, if a proper stipend system were put in place, strong performers would have a mechanism to rise and contest elections and you would have a whole new class of talent in the profession of politics. Unless these reforms happen, including youth in our politics will be nothing but one of the specialties of our politicians – empty talk.

Other nonsensical rules in Indian politics include the Rs 25 lakh limit on electoral campaigns. The actual average spend, my MP friends tell me, is around Rs 6 crore per constituency. Where does this unaccounted money come from? Obviously, one stands little chance if one is not corrupt. Can we not remove these impractical and outdated limits? Why not define legitimate fundraising methods? If we do that, many good people would enter politics and change the face of this nation. As a nation we have enormous expertise in covering our backs and not rocking the boat. Right from school, Indians are taught to shut up and not question anything. Thus, even though some of the above things are obvious, nobody important will sit up and say ‘We need to change things’. It isn’t easy to change things but it needs to be done. And you, of all people, have the best chance of taking this archaic bull by the horns and showing it the right direction. The question hundreds of millions of young people are asking is: Are you up for it?

Respectfully,

Young India

“Bin tere…bin tere…bin tere…koi khalish hai hawaon mein bin tere…”

the tune beat on her eardrums- once, twice, thrice and more.
Not that she was fast asleep. But that she hadn’t slept. And she felt like hearing it on and on, again and again. In her mind flipping pages of the sweetest yet the most hurting set of memories.
An alarm tune — what is it supposed to do? Wake you up from sleep?
But for eyes that haven’t seen peaceful sleep since long, for ears that still yearn to hear those whispers that would send shivers down the spine, for senses that fail to let go of that aura of pure love that would once make her feel luckier and prettier each day, this alarm was nothing more than a fresh revival of memories she ‘should’ let go off, but couldn’t. Just couldn’t. She could relate to it more than anything else and it was painful. Very painful. Which is why it was her morning alarm tune. Sad songs, the more you can relate with them, the more they remind you of your pain, bringing every bit of your soul to tears. Yet, you love them even more. It was the first thing she did in the day. And this way, pain was what her days had been starting with. For the last one year.

Yes. One year. It has been a year now. And she still clings to those memories as tightly as possible. Like she won’t let them go. Never. The jokes they shared, the fun they poked, the care and the affection, the times she would sulk and he would play the joker, all of it had re-played in front of her eyes every single morning. She laughed. And she cried. She laughed on all that had been so dream-like beautiful. She cried ‘coz it was indeed all dreams now.

Those were her mornings. Mornings after half sleepless nights, the rest half trying to relive those moments. The best thing about dreams is that they can give you joys you otherwise may only yearn for, in real.

And this morning was no different. Yet again she had woken up to what reminded her how hurt she was. Yet again she had imagined those magical moments that still remain the happiest moments of her life, but a thing of past. Yet again she had woken up to sit still, stunned, still unable to believe, what happened did actually happen. Yet again she had asked her god, “WHY?”.

Yet again every tear that her tired eyes dropped, trickling down her now-pale cheeks, shouted out to her conscience, seeking answers to questions that had haunted her since the last one year.

Yet again she had wondered in absolute awe, “I am stuck. He has moved on. How?”

Yet again it was a morning no different. Yet again, everything was yet again……

Before I begin with the project description I consider it pretty important that you get to know how de communication with the mobile phone is done. For this you should check out the following links first.
The first link is a link to the wikipedia site that helps you udnerstand the basics of the AT (Hayes) Command Set:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayes_command_set
The following link is a .pdf file that lists the AT commands that you need to send to the mobile phone through the serial interface. The AT commands are basically the same for most GSM modules/phones with slight variations.
http://ebookbrowse.com/s35i-c35i-m35i-atc-commandset-v01-pdf-d29637636
Finally I added this link that explains in detail how to send and receive SMS messages with the help of AT commands and how exactly those messages are encoded (PDU format):
http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/

2. Description of the individual blocks

As mentioned above I have chosen the ATmega16A microcontroller. The program I have written takes up less then 8kB so an ATmega8A would be just as good. You can look for microcontrollers from other manufacturers as well. All this project needs is a standard IO port with 8 pins and an asynchronous serial interface (RX and TX pins). Also for ease of programming ISP capability would be good.

The ISP interface is a simple 6 pin (3×2) header connected to the corresponding pins of the microcontroller. I have designed mine to work with the AVRISP mkII that connects to the USB port of the PC. There are many different possibilities to make your own in-system-programmer but most of them are either designed for a parallel or serial port or require a programmed microcontroller. Also the AVRISP mkII is very easy to use with AVR Studio and not too expensive.

Since I use the data cable of the Siemens M55 to communicate with it and didn’t want to destroy it I had to translate my TTL level serial communication from the microcontroller to RS-232 levels. If you have a GSM module that works with TTL levels (or connect directly to the corresponding pins of the phone, that also operate at TTL levels) you don’t need a level converter and can connect the module directly to the RX and TX pins of the microcontroller. If you use a data-cable that operates at RS-232 levels (designed to communicate with PC) then you need a MAX232 or similar IC. The MAX232 is very easily implemented. It only needs some capacitors and you can connect the RX and TX pins of the TTL levels on one side and get RS-232 levels on the other. The following image should give you a better idea of what I am talking about if you didn’t use this IC before. The picture is from the MAX232 datasheet

The capacitors are of 1uF each.

I will describe the relay driving circuit for 1 relay. It is the same for the other 3 relays. The relays that I have used are latching type relays with 2 coils. Both coils can be sued to set or reset the relay. To keep the command simple I have used one IO pin to set and one IO pin to reset the relay, commanding the two coils individually. To be able to supply the necessary current for the relay to latch, I have used npn transistors with a current limiting resistor in the base of the transistor, that is connected to the microcontroller IO pin. Since I use 2 IO pins to command each relay and those lines are always at different logic values (either the set or the reset line are at +5V) I have mounted a bicolor led and a current limiting resistor between the two IO lines to visualize the position of the relays. For a better understanding of the relay driving circuit look at the schematic further down.

The power supply consists of a 7805 voltage regulator. It can be supplied by any DC voltage between 7 and 35V (35V is the absolute maximum rating. I wouldn’t go that high 😉 ). Along with the 7805 I have added some filtering capacitors at the input and output of the IC.

3. Electrical schematic

I have designed this project in EAGLE. Since the dimensions are not that big the light (free) version of EAGLE was all I needed.
Also worth mentioning is that I have connected one of the pins of the ADC to a 3 pin header along with VCC and GND to be able to add a temperature sensor to the project in case I decide to modify the project. If you don’t want this you can also leave the AREF and AVCC pins unconnected.

4. Board layout

I will only post the complete layout with both Top and Bottom sides. The EAGLE file is linked below.

The drill sizes are rounded to mm’s. So if you’re living in the stone age and don’t use the metric system 😛 you will probably have to modify them.

I have uploaded the schematic and the board layout to a free file hosting server but I don’t know how long it will stay up. If you want it and the link isn’t working just send me a mail. The folder also contains the component library. Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?h6taq8dk9g2xq

4. Software

The software was written in AVR Studio with the WinAVR plugin installed. I have written it in c programming language since assembly is just a pain in the a**. 🙂 Basically what the microcontroller is doing is initializing the serial interface and then the phone. Initialization of the phone means inserting the pin number (I have put it to 1234 in the program), selecting the storage for SMS messages (it selects the phone memory and not the SIM memory) and inserting the SMS service centre address. The current address is for a Vodafone Romania prepaid SIM. These parameters are at the beginning of the program so you shouldn’t have a hard time changing them even if you have no clue of C programming. Below is the block diagram of the software. It is written in romanian but basically the idea is:
– you initialize the serial port, the phone and set the IO pins to output;
– you keep asking the phone if it has any unread messages (with the AT command “at+cmgl=0”)
– if so you check whether the message starts with a ‘R’ or a ‘r’. This is because the message to change the relay positions has to be “R xxxx” where x is either 1 or 0 according to what position the relay has to have. Also this allows us to ignore messages from other people.
– if the message starts accordingly you modify the relay positions so that they correspond to the SMS.

The code for the programming is uploaded on mediafire here is the link >>http://www.mediafire.com/?p6ed2aevw7c447h  just download it and burn it on the microcontroller using AVR studio 4 njoy….. 😉

God bless us all 😉

What is Batch Coding?

A batch file is a MS-DOS file which executes certain commands.. Lots of people think batch files are ‘nooby’, but if you know what you are doing they can actually be quite powerful..
98% of the Batch Files are undetectable & 2% are rarely detectable.. The best part is that, Batch Codings does’nt need any softwares, it can just be coded in simple notepad and
are saved as anything.bat..

Similar to job control language and other systems on mainframe and minicomputer systems, batch files were added to ease the work required for certain regular tasks by allowing the user to set up a batch script to automate many commands. When a batch file is run, the shell program (usually COMMAND.COM or cmd.exe) reads the file and executes its commands, normally line-by-line.

Microsoft Windows was introduced in 1985 as a GUI Operating System alternative to text-based operating and was designed to run on MS-DOS. In order to start it the WIN command was used and could be added to the end of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow automatic loading of Windows. In the earlier versions one could run a .bat type file from Windows in the MS-DOS Prompt.

Windows was run from MS-DOS and used COMMAND.COM to run .bat files on the following operating systems:
*Windows 1, 2 and 3.
*Windows 95 and 98.
*Windows ME (access to real mode MS-DOS was restricted).

This example batch file is a simple program that displays a hello world program and then waits for the user to press a key before ending.
Code:

@ECHO off
ECHO Hello World!
PAUSE
ECHO on

Advanced batch example – Conditional Shutdown..
Code:

@echo off
color 3
title Conditional Shutdown
set /p name=enter a name:
:start
cls
echo Hi, %name%
echo.
echo 1.Shutdown
echo 2.Quit
set /p choice=enter your choice 1,2:
if %choice%==1 goto shutdown
if %choice%==2 exit

:shutdown
cls
set /p sec=enter the number of seconds that you wish the computer to shutdown in:
set /p msg=enter the shutdown message you wish to display:
shutdown -s -f -t %sec% -c “%msg%”
echo shutdown initiated at %time%
set /p cancel=type cancel to stop shutdown
if %cancel%==cancel shutdown -a
if %cancel%==cancel goto start

Microsoft has not officially released information pertaining to the future of Command Prompt (host for .bat and .cmd files) yet, but the company is now starting to include Windows PowerShell in releases for newer operating systems, which has all the core functions of Command Prompt and more (and instead of .bat and .cmd files, it runs .ps1 files). Yet it is important to remember that it is not certain this will replace Command Prompt, and that Microsoft is still making important tools for Command Prompt specifically, instead of for PowerShell (such as servermanagercmd.exe, which incorporates the entire set of Server Manager functions for Windows Server 2008)..

Heer Ranjha’s sad love story

India is a land of diverse cultures and customs……. 😉
India is also the home of some of the most famous love stories in the world……Indian love stories reflect the societal norms and beliefs of the people of the land and reaffirm our faith in the power of love. A very famous Indian love story is that of Heer and Ranjha in the Punjab.
Heer Salati was the daughter of a very wealthy man in a village in Punjab. Ranjha was the native of another village (Takht Hazara) and he was the youngest son of an indulgent father. Because of his father’s indulgence, Ranjha did not have to work in the fields like his brothers, but played flute for the whole day and led a life of luxury…….He left his home after a quarrel with his brothers over farm land and came to Heer’s village……
Heer offered him a job as the caretaker of her father’s cattle and was enthralled by the way Ranjha played the flute…..:)
They fell in love with each other and met secretly for many years before Heer’s jealous uncle found out about them…… Heer was forced to marry another man named Saida Khera……. Heart broken, Ranjha left the village and wandered off to distant places……
After many trials and tribulations, the lovers were united but only in death, as Heer’s jealous uncle Kaido poisoned the food which the lovers were supposed to take on their wedding day…..A ver sad ending….. 😦

” love is Indeed Blind 😦 “

A video that caught my eyes and i would like to share with you all….
